What Is cPanel?
cPanel is a control panel designed to make your hosting experience more user-friendly. This is done by offering a wide range of tools that do specific tasks such as Emailing, Database management and many more. These tools are organised into categories making navigation an easy and simple process.
Each category offers a wide range of tools that users can use in order to complete tasks.

1. Files
File Manager: View your servers storage directory. Edit files, upload new files and remove files within here. Similar to FTP.
Images: This tool offers three features that allow you to edit images stored on your server.
A. Thumbnailer: Creates thumbnails from your select image.
B. Scaler: Changes the size of a select image to a new aspect ratio
C. Converter: Convert the file type of an image. For example: .PNG to .JPG
Directory Privacy: Restrict users from accessing directories by setting custom usernames and passwords that are required upon access.
Disk Usage: Is an option allowing you to view a more detailed version of your storage capacity. Easily monitor which directories are using the most storage.
Web Disk: Manage your uploads and downloads using web disk to view files as if they where stored on your PC.
FTP Accounts: Create and manage your FTP Accounts here. Use this option when connecting to your server via programs such as FileZilla.
FTP Connections: Monitor which users are currently connected via FTP. If you require you can terminate active sessions.
Backup: This option allows you to generate clones of certain directories, email accounts or your entire cPanel account. Backups are generated a .zip files that you can download and store elsewhere.
Backup Wizard: Makes creating or restoring backups an easy process, follow a setup by setup guide in generating backups or restoring from your current backup.
2. Data Bases
phpMyAdmin: Make in depth changes to your current MySQL databases stored within your account using this database management tool.
MySQL Databases: Easily create and manage your databases within cPanel using this option.
MySQL Databases Wizard: This tool provides the same function as MySQL Database however is a simpler version that makes database creation an easier process.
3. Domains
Site Publisher: Use this option to create your website using a set of templates supplied by cPanel.
Domains: Use this option to manage your current domains.
Addon Domains: With this tool you have the option to add more domains to your hosting account. Addon domains have the same functionality as your main domain.
Subdomains: This tool allows you to create subdomains which you can point to different pages or different IP addresses.
Aliases: This option allows you to redirect traffic from other domains you own to your current website. This allows users to access your website no matter what domain the used.
Redirects: Create redirections for specific pages or domains to ensure visitors are sent to the page you desire.
Zone Editor: Allows you to edit the following records: A, AAAA, CNAME, SRV, TXT and MX.
4. Email
Email Accounts: Create and manage the mailboxes associated with your domain.
Forwarders: Once you receive an email you may want your emails sent to a different inbox. Forwarders allow you to setup email redirections to the inbox you require.
Email Routing: If required you can setup email routing for your domain here.
AutoResponders: When users send emails to your inboxes you may want to email them back instantly with a generic message. You can setup this function within autoresponders.
Default Address: In the event you receive an email for an inbox that does not exist the email will be redirected to an inbox specified here.
Mailing Lists: Using this option you can group your contacts into mailing lists allowing you to send bulk emails with ease.
Track Delivery: Monitor the emails you send to ensure delivery.
Global Email Filters: This option allows you to configure the filters of emails your inbox receives.
Email Filters: This option allows you to create emailing filters for either all email accounts or specific email accounts.
Authentication: Prevent spam by setting up DKIM and SPF Records for your email accounts.
Address Importer: Import email addresses or generate lists using .xls or .csv file types.
Spam Filters: Prevent spam by setting up spam filters. Incoming emails are analysed for characteristics and given a score depending on how likely the email is to be spam.
Encryption: This tool allows you to set up GnuPG which is a public encryption service. Emails are encrypted using your public key and decrypted using your private key.
BoxTrapper: This tool prevents unwanted emails by requesting senders who are not whitelisted to reply to a verification email before your inbox accepts the original email.
Calendars and Contacts: View and manage your email calendars and contacts here. To view on multiple devices such as mobiles you require CalDAV and CardDAV.
Email Disk Usage: View how much space your emails are using and remove old emails you no longer require to save storage.
5. Metrics
Visitors: Allows you to view the most recent pages and domains loaded by your visitors.
Errors: Any errors you run into are logged here. View the most recent 300 errors that have occurred on your website.
Bandwidth: View your bandwidth usage for the past year to monitor your websites growth.
Raw Access: Access logs for your account in RAW form.
Awstats: Generate statistics that show you how well your website is performing. View how many pages have been accessed and for how long by users and web crawlers over a period of time.
CPU and Concurrent Connection Usage: Provides information on the resources your hosting consumes.
6. Security
SSH Access: In order to connect to your account via SSH you require a access key. This can be generated here.
IP Blocker: Block a range or a specific IP address to prevent access to your site. Useful in the event you receive targeted attacks.
SSL/TLS: Helps to install and manage your SSL Certificates.
Hotlink Protection: When a website directly links to an image hosted on your server you waste bandwidth loading your content on other people’s websites. Enable this setting to prevent this from occurring.
Leech Protection: Monitors if users are actively posting passwords for restricted areas of your website. If compromised, you can suspend the account to prevent unauthorised access.
SSL/TLS Wizard: Install your SSL or TLS certificate with ease using cPanel’s user-friendly guide to installation.
ModSecurtiy: Is a built in open-source web-based firewall.
SSL/TLS Status: View the status of your domains SSL or TLS certificate.
7. Software
PHP Pear Packages: Install and manage any PHP Pear Packages you use for your web hosting.
Perl Modules: A Perl module is used to support software programmed using Perl.
RubyGems: Provides the option to install Gems in order to run programs coded in Ruby.
Site Software: Allows you to add , manage , upgrade or remove any cPanel Addons.
Optimize Website: Change the way Apache handles requests by enabling or disabling the compression of your website by tweaking the configuration. This can improve your websites performance.
MultiPHP Manager: Select which version of PHP is used on which domains you own.
MultiPHP INI Editor: Set the home directory to the corresponding PHP configuration.
8. Advanced
Terminal: Provides a command line allowing you to access your server via cPanel.
Cron Jobs: Create and manage scripts that you operate on a schedule here.
Track DNS: Trace the route your traffic takes from your client to your server. Also check DNS information regarding any domain.
Indexes: Configure the way your directory appears to visitors.
Error Pages: Configure the default error pages that appear due to an error on your server.
Apache Handlers: Configure different Apache handlers to deal with different file types.
MIME Types: View information regarding your systems Predefined MIME types with options to add your own.
9. Preference
Password & Security: Change your accounts password here.
Change Language: Changes the default language for cPanel.
Contact Information: Enter your contact information here to receive alerts and notifications.
User Manager: Manage all users.
