This article will explain how to transfer or migrate email accounts with all messages from an existing cPanel account to ours by following the guided steps below.

For the sake of this illustration, we will refer to your website as yourdomain.com.

First, be sure to have yourdomain.com added as a Parked or Addon in cPanel at the new destination’s server.

Migrating the Email Accounts

Step 1: Using your preferred FTP Client, connect to your current Hosting Account where the email accounts and messages are stored, then navigate to the etc/ folder by clicking Home -> Cpanel user -> etc/.

Step 2: Once you are in the etc/ folder you will see a folder called yourdomain.com, download this folder anywhere on your computer’s drive. This folder contains all the information for your email accounts and email addresses associated with the domain.

Step 3: Next, connect your FTP client to the new server or cPanel that you want to migrate the accounts to. Follow Step 1 to navigate to the etc/folder and upload the folder you previously downloaded in Step 2.

Step 4: Before continuing to transfer the messages, you should remove or rename the downloaded yourdomain.com directory on your local computer that you did in Step 2.

Migrating the Email Messages

Step 5: Repeating step 1, go to your FTP client and reconnect to your current Hosting account. This time choose the mail/ folder located under Home -> cPaneluser -> mail/.

Step 6: Download the directory labelled yourdomain.com, just like you did in Step 2 and save it on your computer’s drive. This directory contains all the email messages received and sent for yourdomain.com.

Step 7: Connect your FTP to your new account where you want to transfer the messages and upload the directory you downloaded in Step 2 into the mail/ folder.

You have successfully transferred your Email accounts and all the messages to your new cPanel. To check if your transferred emails were indeed successful, simply log into your new cPanel in your user account to access them.

Final Step: Your DNS provider will be able to assist you with the MX record changes, so you can direct the flow of emails for yourdomain.com to the new server.
